Lay Missionaries  of the Sacred Hearth

and Saint Mary of Guadalupe

ORIGIN

At the end of the second millennium and on the threshold of the third, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez Chiapas, in the year 1991, the MSCGpe religious sisters, with the desire to make come true the dream of their founder, Servant of God Mother Mary Beloved of the Child Jesus, to bring the Gospel to our indigenous brothers, they promoted in the missionary spirit a group of high school students of the then called Colegio de Niñas (today, the Fray Víctor María Flores Institute), and invited them to participate in missions in indigenous communities; the young women accepted the proposal, received training and were given spiritual guidance to participate adequately in the Holy Week missions in the indigenous communities of Tenejapa, Oxchuc and Huixtán, where the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and of Santa María de Guadalupe carry out their apostolate .

The love for the mission with the indigenous brothers grew in these girls and they took on the task of integrating into the group some young men who, like them, felt the desire to be sent by Jesus to extend the Kingdom of God.

At the celebration of the Ninth General Chapter of the MSCGpe held in Mexico City in 1993, Sister Juana Inés Loredo González, who accompanied and promoted the wishes of these young people in their beginnings, presented to the assembly the petition that the young people made to belong to the MSCGpe family, as lay Christians committed to share and radiate the same spirituality and the same charisma. The petition was heard by the Chapter Assembly, thus being officially accepted by the Congregation.

Little by little, groups of lay missionaries were being integrated in the places where the Congregation is present, always advised by one of the MSCGpe nuns; in addition to the general adviser. In 2008, the MSCGpe renewed the Constitutions in which an article referring to Lay Missionaries was introduced (Art. 71), and which was approved in the year 2009 in the Holy See by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. Since then, it has had the ecclesiastical approval to form this association of committed lay people who participate in the same spirituality and charism of the MSCGpe. This is the foundation that gives legal solidity to this work of the Heart of Jesus , raised by the Holy Spirit at the service of the Kingdom.
